T he brake fluid s hould be checked and changed in accordance w ith the
P eriodic M aintenance C hart (pag es B .......) or w h enever it is contam inated w ith
dirt or w ate r. D o n t change the fluid in the rain or w hen a strong w in d is
blow ing.
C A U T IO N !
* U se only brake fluid from a sealed container (D O T 4). N ever use old brake
fluid.
* N ever allow co ntam inants (dirt, w ater, etc.) to en ter the b rake fluid reservoir.
* D on t leave the reservoir cap off an y length o f tim e to avoid m oisture
contam ination of the fluid.
* H andle brake fluid w ith care because it can dam age paint.
* D on t m ix tw o types of fluid for u se in the brake. T his low e rs the b rake fluid
boiling point and could cause the brake to be ineffective. It m ay also cause the
rubber brake pa rt to deteriora te.
T o replace the fluid, proceed as follow s:
- R em ove the ru bber cap on th e bleeding valve (1) or (1A ).
- A ttach a clear p lastic hose to the bleeding valve on the brake caliper and tu rn
the other e nd of the hose into a co ntainer.
- R em ove fluid re servoir cap (2) o r (2A ) and the ru b ber.
- Loosen bleedin g valve on the brake caliper.
- P um p w ith brake lever (3) o r bra ke pedal (3A ) in order to push bra ke fluid out
of line.
- C lose the bleed ing valve and fill the reservoir w ith fresh brake fluid.
- O pe n the bleeding valve, apply the brake using th e brake lever or pedal,
close the bleeding valve w ith the brake lever or pe dal applied and then quickly
release the lever or pedal.
- R epeat this operation until the brake line is filled and clear fluid starts com ing
out of the plastic hose: no w close the bleeding valve.
- R estore the bra ke fluid level (A ) or (B ) then re assem ble the rubb er and the
fluid reservoir cap.
A fter the b rake fluid replacem ent, it is necessary to operate th e brak ing system
bleeding.
