Ig n itio n c o il resistan ce ch ec k
T o gain access to the electronic coil (1) rem ove th e saddle and the fuel tank (see
page E .16-E .2 3). D etach the ignition coil from m ain w iring h arness. R em ove the
fastening screw s , the ignition coil then m easure th e resistance in the prim ary and
secondary w indings using a tester.
- P rim ary w indin g resistance: check for the continuity.
- S econdary w in ding resistance: 5,0÷7,5 K O hm a 20°C (w ith out sp ark plug cap
cable); 10,0÷12,5 K O hm a 2 0°C (w ith spa rk plug cap cable)
If the resistance is not betw een th e specified values, replace the electronic coil.
A lso, check the resistance of the term inal cap contact w ith the spa rk plug.
- T erm inal cap re sistance: 4,5÷5,5 K O hm a 20 °C .
If the resistance is not betw een th e specified values, replace the electronic coil.
N O T E : T he ignition coil is fastened under th e fuel tank. O n an a rea totally e xem pt
from o xidization or paint; if the ea rth contact is not perfect this could cause dam age
to the coil and ignition faults as w ell.
