Glossary
Event
A significant change. Events in controlled network elements include signal failures,
equipment failures, signals exceeding thresholds, and protection switch activity. When an
event occurs in a controlled network element, the controlled network element will
generate an alarm or status message and send it to the ITM-SC.
Event Management (EM)
Subsystem of the ITM-SC that processes and logs event reports of the network.
Externally Timed
An operating condition of a clock in which it is locked to an external reference and uses
time constants that are altered to quickly bring the local oscillator's frequency into
approximate agreement with the synchronization reference frequency.
Extra Traffic
Unprotected traffic that is carried over the protection channels when that capacity is not
used for the protection of service traffic.
