Alarm messages
Alarm category
The "Alarm category" entry in the alarm overview table indicates the functional area to
which the alarm belongs.
The alarms that can be reported by 1643 AM and 1643 AMS systems can be divided
into these alarm categories:
• Environment
Environment alarms are caused by defects detected in external devices which can
be monitored.
• Equipment
Equipment alarms are caused by hardware defects.
• Processing error
Processing alarms are caused by inconsistencies in the internal data processing.
• Quality of service (performance monitoring)
Quality of service alarms are caused by threshold crossings of performance
monitoring counters.
• Transmission
Transmission alarms are caused by defects detected in the transmission signal.
ASAP
The "ASAP" entry in the alarm overview table indicates the type of alarm severity
assignment profile to which the alarm belongs.
The system maintains a predefined set of profile types that are used for categorizing
alarms into alarm types.
• System shall support 'equipment' profile type, all fault causes which are related to
equipment alarms shall be classified as 'equipment' profile type.
• System shall support 'mdi' profile type, all fault causes which are related to mdi
alarms shall be classified as 'mdi' profile type.
• System shall support 'dcn' profile type, all fault causes which are related to node
level dcn alarms (including Q-LAN) shall be classified as 'dcn' profile type.
• System shall support 'timing' profile type, all fault causes which are related to
timing alarms (node, port and timing sources) shall be classified as 'timing' profile
type.
• System shall support 'sdhPRS' profile type, all transmission & TCA fault causes
which are related to Physical and Regenerator Section for SDH shall be classified
as 'sdhPRS' profile type.
• System shall support 'sdhMS' profile type, all transmission & TCA fault causes
related to Multiplex Section for SDH shall be classified as 'sdhMS' profile type.
• System shall support 'sdhMSP' profile type, all fault causes which are related to
1+1 Multiplex Section Protection for SDH shall be classified as 'sdhMSP' profile
type.
