1. Turn the ignition switch to "OFF" and exchange
reverse shift relay 1 with a known-good one.
Shift the transmission into neutral and turn the
ignition switch to "ON."
Turn the reverse shift switch to "ON."
• If the reverse shift actuator operates, replace
reverse shift relay 1 with a new one.
• If the reverse shift actuator does not operate,
go to step 2.
2. Push the reverse shift switch to "OFF," turn the
ignition switch to "OFF," and exchange reverse
shift relay 2 with a known-good one.
Turn the ignition switch to "ON" and push the
reverse shift switch to "ON."
• If the reverse shift actuator operates, replace
reverse shift relay 2 with a new one and check
again using original reverse shift relay 1.
• If the reverse shift actuator does not operate,
go to step 3.
3. Push the reverse shift switch to "OFF," turn the
ignition switch to "OFF," and exchange reverse
shift relay 3 with a known-good one.
Turn the ignition switch to "ON" and push the
reverse shift switch to "ON."
• If the reverse shift actuator operates, replace
reverse shift relay 3 with a new one and check
again using original reverse shift relays 1 and
2.
• If the reverse shift actuator does not operate,
go to step 4.
4. Turn the ignition switch to "OFF" and remove
reverse shift relay 1.
Measure the voltage between the Red/black wire
terminal (+) of the relay connector and ground
(–).
• If there is battery voltage, go to step 5.
• If there is no voltage, check for an open circuit
in the Red/black wire between the relay box
and fuse box (No. 23 fuse).
5. Turn the ignition switch to "ON."
Measure the voltage
wire terminal (+) of the relay connector and
ground (–).
• If there is battery voltage, go to step 6.
• If there is no voltage, check for an open circuit
in the Brown wire between the relay box and
fuse box (No. 10 fuse).
6. Check the Red wires for continuity between
relays 1 and 2, and between relays 1 and 3.
• If there is continuity, follow the troubleshoot-
ing flow chart on page 19-9.
• If there is no continuity, repair the open circuit
in the Red wire.
