PROBLEM
A timeout occurred while
writing to the serial port
During initialization, the
desktop OAI connection
timed out; no data was
received

SYMPTON AND POSSIBLE SOLUTION
The DTI Server timed out while trying to write a Desktop OAI com-
mand to the serial port. This error can also occur after the DTI
Server has finished initializing its connection to the telephone sys-
tem. Possible causes include the following:
Serial cord is unplugged or not plugged into a PCDPM.
COM port is set incorrectly.
Cable is too long. (Limit cable to 25 inches or less for speeds
below 9600 bps.)
Bit rate is set incorrectly.
Flow control is set wrong. (The telephone system and the
DTI Server PC should use hardware flow control.)
The Desktop Interface Premium Feature is not enabled in
Database Programming.
The proper DB9M-to-DB9F "straight-though" serial extension
cable (part number 813.1683) is not used. This part is avail-
able separately or in the Universal RS-232 Kit (part number
828.1282). The DTI Server computer's serial port transmit
buffer FIFO must be set to "Low" (1 byte) since the PCDPM's
data input buffer is very small
The DTI Server timed out while trying to initialize the Desktop OAI
connection to the telephone system. No data was received. The
DTI Server was able to successfully login to the Call Processing
(CP) Server or open the serial port. However, it did not receive
any response from the Desktop OAI connection when one was
expected. If the DTI Server is configured to use a PCDPM (serial
connection), see "A timeout occurred while writing to the serial
port," described above for possible causes. If the DTI Server is
configured to use the CP Server (TCP/IP connection), ensure the
IP Address and TCP Port of the DTI Server (in the DTI Server
Settings dialog box) correctly point to the CP Server. Use CP
Server v5.2 or later because it provides more detailed error infor-
mation. Earlier CP Server systems might report this error for failed
TCP/IP Desktop OAI login attempts.
