Table 3-3
describes common commands used to manage the switch. Commands specific
to a particular feature are described in the other chapters of this guide.

Description
Creates a user account.
Creates a VLAN.
Configures a user account password.
Configures the banner string. You can
enter up to 24 rows of 80-column text that
is displayed before the login prompt of
each session. Press [Return] at the
beginning of a line to terminate the
command and apply the banner. To clear
the banner, press [Return] at the beginning
of the first line.
Configures the operating mode of the
switch. Specify the following:
bridging — Layer 2 bridging
functions only
iprouting — Bridging and IP unicast
routing functions
ipmc — Bridging, IP unicast routing,
and IP multicast routing functions
ipqos — IP flow-based QoS functions
If this command is used to change the
operating mode of the Summit once it is
up and running, it causes the switch to
save the configuration and reboot. The
default operating mode is ipmc.
Manually configures the port speed and
duplex setting of one or more ports.
