Removing the Processor

Remove the processor as follows.
If the system has been running, any processor
and heatsink already installed on the board will
be hot. To avoid the possibility of a burn, let the
components cool for 10 minutes before
continuing with the procedures described here.
1. Let the components within the system cool for about 10
minutes before removing a processor.
2. Remove the left cover of the system unit (see "Removing
the Side Covers").
3. Remove the drive cage (see "Removing the Drive Cage").
4. Locate the processor socket (see "System Board Sockets
and Connectors"). Label and disconnect any cables that
block the processor.
5. Release the locking tabs holding the processor in the
retention mechanism by pressing them toward the
processor. The tabs should click open.
