Malfunctions

A malfunction can have various causes.

If the
warning light in the instrument
cluster flashes for approxi-
mately one minute and then remains continuously illuminated and
additionally the

symbol appears in the display, the
tire pressure monitoring system is not available . This can have various
causes.
If the message appears at the end of the learning process, the
system cannot recognize the wheels installed on the vehicle . This can
be because one or more wheels without a wheel sensor were
installed.
A wheel sensor or other component may have failed.
During initialization the system has detected more than 4 wheels
on the vehicle, for example while driving next to another car with a
tire pressure monitoring system.
A wheel change was made but the button ~ page 241, fig.
151
was not pressed.
Audi replacement
parts were not used.
If snow chains are being used , system function can be compro-
mised due to the shielding properties of the chains.
The tire pressure monitoring system may not be available because
of a radio malfunction .
Safety first
Transmitters
with the same frequency, such as radio headphones
in the vehicle or radio equipment, can cause a temporary disruption
of the system through excessive electromagnetic
fields .
Eliminate the interference if possible/if you can and then proceed
as follows: Turn off the engine for 20 minutes. Then drive another 10
min. If the warning light comes on again, you should contact your
authorized Audi dealer immediately to have the problem corrected .
Do not use commercially available tire sealants . Otherwise, the
electrical components of the tire pressure monitoring system will no
longer work properly and the sensor for the tire pressure monitoring
system will have to be replaced by a qualified workshop . •
Run-flat
tires
Applies t o vehicles: with Run-flat t ires
Introduction
Run-flat tires help keep you moving if a tire goes flat.
Reinforced sidewalls give the tires run-flat capability if tire pressure
is lost.
We recommend that run -flat tires only be mounted on vehicles that
were originally equipped with these special tires at the factory and
have a Tire Pressure Monitoring System .
Run-flat tires can be identified by the letters "RSC" on the tire side-
wall.
If you do change the tires on your vehicle from normal to run-flat
tires, you must buy the special rims required for run-flat tires, and the
Tire Pressure Monitoring System must be reprogrammed
by an
authorized Audi dealer or other qualified workshop.
What
do run-flat
tires
do?
These special tires have run-flat capabilities that help keep you
moving if a tire loses pressure and goes flat . Under favorable condi -
tions tires can be driven at least 30 miles (SO km), but you must not _,,,,
