Changing
the
engine
oil
We recommend that have your oil changed by an autho-
rize d Audi dealer or a qualified service station.
Before you check anything in the engine compartment, alway s read

The eng ine oil must be changed according t o t he intervals specifie d in
your Warranty
&
Maintenance book let . This is very important because
the lubricating properties of oil diminish gradually during norma l
vehicle use.
Under some circumstances the engine oil should be changed more
frequently. Change oi l more ofte n if you dr ive mostl y short distances,
operate the vehicle in dusty areas or under predominant ly stop-and-
go tr affic condi t ions, or have your vehicl e where t emperat ures remain
below freezing for extended periods.
Detergent additives in the oil w ill make fres h oil look dark after the
engine has been ru nni ng for a short ti me. This is normal and is not a
reason to change the oil mo re often than recommended.
Because of t he proble m of pr oper disposal, along w it h t he special
too ls and necessary expertise required , we strong ly recommend that
you have your oil changed by an aut horized Audi dealer or a qua lified
service stat ion.
If you choose to change your oil yourself , please note the following
im portan t infor matio n:

To reduce the risk of personal injury if you must change the engine
oil in your vehicle yourself:
• Wear eye protection.
• To reduce the risk of burns from hot engine oil, let the engine
cool down to the touch.

• When removing the oil drain plug with your fingers , stay as far
away as possible. Always keep your forearm parallel to the ground
to help prevent hot oil from running down your arm .

Drain the oil into a container designed for this purpose, one
large enough to hold at least the total amount of oil in your
engine .

Engine oil is poisonous. Keep it well out of the reach of chil-
dren.
• Continuous contact with used engine oil is harmful to your
skin. Always protect your skin by washing oil off thoroughly with
soap and water.

Never m ix oil additives w it h your engine oil. These additives can
damage your engine and adversely affect your Audi Limited New
Vehicle Warranty .

Before changing your oil, first ma ke sure you know w here you can
pro perly dispose of t he used oil.
•
Always dispose of used eng ine oil prope rly . Do not dum p it on
garden soi l, wooded areas, into open st reams or down sewage drains.
•
Recycle used engine oil by taking it t o a used engine oil collection
facili ty in your area, or contac t a service stat ion. •
