Releasing
- Loosen the tension on the straps f ollowing the child
restra int man ufact urer's inst ructions.
Depress the spring catches to release the anchorage hooks
from the lower a nchorages .
Remember: Use tether straps to help keep the child restraint firmly
in place.

Improper use of the LATCH system can increase the risk of serious
personal injury and death in an accident.
• These anchors were developed only for child safety seats using
the "LATCH " system.

Never attach other child s afety seats , belts o r other objects to
the se anchors .
• Always make sure that you hear a click when latching the seat
in place . If you do not hear a click the seat is not secure and could
fly forward and hit the inter ior of the veh icle, or be ejected from
the vehicle.

The tether anchors for the rear seating positions are located on the
backside of the rear seatbacks => fig. 126.
A tether is a st raight or V-shaped strap that attac hes the top pa rt of
a child restraint to special anchorage points in the vehicle.
The purpose of the t ether is to red uce t he forward movemen t of the
child restraint in a crash, in order to help reduce the risk of head injury
t ha t could be caused by striking the vehicle inter ior.
Forward fac ing ch ild restraints manufactured afte r September 1,
1999, a re required by U.S. federa l reg ulat ions to comp ly with new
child head movement performance requirements . These new perfor-
mance requirements make a tether necessary on most new ch ild
safety sea t s.
