the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light does not come on and stay on,
imm ediately install the rear-facing child safety seat in a rear
seating position and have the airbag system inspected by your
Audi dealer .

WARNING
If, in exceptional circumstances, you must install a forward-facing
child restraint on the front passenger's seat:
•
Always make sure the forward-facing seat has been designed
and cert ified by its manufacturer for use on a front seat with a
passenger front and side airbag .
•
Never put the forward-facing child restraint up against or very
near the instrument panel.
•
Alway s move the passenger seat into it s rearmost position in
the seat's fore and aft adjustment range, as far away from the
airbag as possible, before installing the forward-facing child
restraint. The backrest must be adjusted to an upright position.
•
Make sure that the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light comes on
and stays on all the time whenever the ignition is switched on. •

System
components
The fron t passenger seat in your veh icle has a lot of very important
parts of t he Adva nced Airbag System in it. These parts include t he
we ight-sens ing mat, sensors, wiring, bracke t s, and more . The func-
ti on of the system in the front pa ssenger seat is chec ked by the elec-
tr on ic contro l unit whe n the ig nit ion is on . The contro l unit monitors
the Advanced Airbag System and turns the airbag indicator light on
when a mal f unction in the system compone nts is dete cted. The func-
tion of the a irbag indicator light is described in g reater detail be low.
Because t he fr ont passenge r seat con t ains import ant parts of th e
Advanced Airbag System, you must take care to prevent it from being

damaged . Damage to the seat may prevent t he Advanced Airbag for

The front

Cras h sensors in the front of the vehicle t hat measure vehicle
acc ele rat ion/ d ece le rat ion t o prov ide info rma tion t o t he Advanc ed
Airbag System about t he severity of the crash .
• An e lect ron ic con t rol uni t , w ith integr at ed crash sen sors fo r fr ont
and side impacts. The contro l unit "dec ides" w het her to fire the front
air bag s base d on th e infor mati on received fro m t he cras h sensors.
The control unit also "decides" whe t her the saf ety bel t pret en s io ners
sh ould be act ivat ed.
• An Advanced Airbag with gas generator for the dr iver inside the
stee ring whee l hub .
• An Advanced Airbag with gas ge nerator inside the inst rument
pane l for t he fro nt pas senge r.
• A wei gh t-sensing mat under the upholste ry padd ing of the front
passenge r seat cushio n th at m easures t he tota l we ig ht on t he seat .
