Activating
The ESP is automati cally act ivated when the engine is st arted and it
performs a self-tes t . You can act ivate a deactivated ASR if required by
press ing the => page 1 70, fig. 129 butto n. When it is activated, the
message
ESP/ ASR on
appea rs briefly in the display .
Deactivating
You can deact ivate the ASR if requ ired by press ing the button (for less
than 3 seconds) => page 170, fig. 129. With the ASR deactivated , the
ESP check light comes on, see=> page 13. The message
ASR off
appea rs in the display as wel l. The ASR ca n be deactivated at any
speed.
The ASR should normally be activated a ll the t ime. Only in certain
except io nal sit uations w hen some slip is desira ble does it make se nse
to deactivate the ASR. Examp les:
• when driving wit h tire chains
• when driving in deep snow or on loose ground and
• when rocking the vehicle loose after it has become st uck.
When the abnormal s ituation is over, you sho uld activate the ASR
agai n.

WARNING
The increased safety afforded by ASR does not mean that you can
take safety risks. Always adapt your driving style to the road
conditions and traffic situation.

Tips
To ensure t hat t he ASR works properly, a ll fou r whee ls mus t be fitted
with ide nt ica l t ires . Any d iffe rences in rolli ng radius of the t ires can
cause the system to red uce engine power when th is is not desired.

The rear spoi ler deploys and retracts. Spoiler operation can be set for
au t oma t ic or manual opera t ion.

• Aut om at ic de ploymen t : At a speed of abou t 75 mp h (120 km/ h),
the rear spoiler deploys automatica lly.
• Aut oma t ic ret ract io n: W he n speed dro ps below abou t SO mp h (80
km/h), the rear spoi le r retracts automat ically .
Manual
mode
Man ua l dep loyment: Tapping br iefly on the switch => fig. 130
deploys the rea r spo iler.
Manua l retraction: At speeds up to about 10 mph (20 km/h),
retract t he rea r spoiler by pressing a nd holding the sw itch=> fig . 130.
At speeds between 10 mp h (20 km/h) and 75 mph (120 km/h) ,
retract the rear spoiler by t apping on the switch=> fig. 13 0.
After 15 cycles (dep loy and retract), manua l operation is suspended
for up t o 2 .5 minu t es . Above 7 5 mph (12 0 km/h), operation switches
to automatic mode .
