Field Definitions

Element Address (Bytes 00 - 01)
The element address field gives the address for the medium transport element whose
status is reported by this element descriptor block.
Except (Byte 02, bit 2)
An exception (Except) bit indicates the state of an element:
0 - An exception bit of 0 indicates the element is in a normal state.
1 - Formatting information on the abnormal state may be available in the additional
sense code and additional sense code qualifier bytes.
Full (Byte 02, bit 0)
The full bit indicates that the element contains a unit of media:
0 - A value of 0 indicates that the element does not contain a unit of media.
1 - A value of 1 indicates that the element contains a unit of media.
Additional Sense Code (Byte 04, bits 7-0)
The Additional Sense Code field (ASC) may provide specific information on an
abnormal element state. The values in this field are as defined for the additional sense
code of the Request Sense data (see
Additional Sense Code Qualifier (Byte 05, bits 7-0)
The additional sense code qualifier field (ASCQ) may provide specific information on an
abnormal element state. The values in this field are as defined for the additional sense
code of the Request Sense data (
SValid (Byte 09, bit 7)
The library only tracks the previous locations of data cartridges for tapes in drives. For
example: you power up the library, all SValid entries are blank. You then move a tape from
slot 4 to drive 1, then from the drive back to slot 4. The Svalid bit for this tape is now set
and the Source Storage Element Address entry is 1, the number of the last drive in which
the tape was located.
