  • Page 3 This manual describes the procedure for removing and replacing the carousel in the Spectra Logic tape libraries. Use this manual if you are upgrading your library from a smaller capacity carousel to a larger capacity carousel. This manual is also useful if you need to remove and replace the carousel for maintenance reasons or as an intermediate step in another procedure.
  • Page 4 1. Access the Spectra Logic screen and write down the library serial number in the table below. 2. Call Spectra Logic technical support at 1-800-399-3585 and tell us what you are doing. You will be given a password for upgrading the carousel size. Write the password in the table below.
  • Page 5 3. Move the library to a location where you have access to all sides of the library and sufficient table space to place parts and work comfortably.   • Page 10 Three tape slots on every carousel have a dual purpose; they can be either storage slots for tapes or pass through slots to access drives. The absence or presence of backstops determines whether a carousel slot is a pass through slot or a storage slot. These combination locations are marked on the top of the carousel with both the tape slot number and the drive number.

  • Page 12 4. Perform a visual check around the outside bottom of the carousel. Check that no wires are caught or pinched between the carousel and the library chassis. 5. Touch Note: You do not need to enter a carousel size; the password tells the library the carousel size. You only need to confirm the change.
