7) Staple nonexistence detection
Nonexistence of staple in the staple cartridge is
detected by the staple nonexistence detection switch
(MS1) provided in the bottom of stapler.
The staple in the staple cartridge is pressed
downward by the spring and center plate. Staple is
sent toward the front of stapler by the staple feed
roller.
While staples remain, the staple pushes the staple
nonexistence detection switch (MS1), so that the
sorter controller recognizes that staple exists.
When staples have run out (about 40 staples remain),
the staple nonexistence detection switch (MS1) is
opened (MS1 is normally closed), so that the sorter
controller detects nonexistence of staples. At the
same time, the sorter controller lights the staple
replenishment indication.

After staple nonexistence is detected, subsequent
stapling operation is not performed. If staple
nonexistence was detected during continuous
stapling, stapling is continued to the end.
