FINAL DRIVE
6. Using a commercially available two-jaw puller rated to
a minimum of 3 tons, press the drive shaft out of the
hub/bearing carrier assembly.
NOTICE
Hub not shown for image clarity.
Do NOT use a puller on the brake rotor to remove the
drive shaft.
Do NOT use heat to remove drive shaft from hub.
7. With a short, sharp jerk, remove drive shaft from the
transmission splines.

CAUTION

REAR DRIVE SHAFT INSTALLATION

1. Install new spring ring
anti-seize compound to the splines
IMPORTANT
Apply anti-seize to the transmission-side splines only.
Do not apply anti-seize to the hub-side splines.
2. Align splines of drive shaft with transmission splines
and reinstall the drive shaft. Use a rubber mallet to
tap on the outboard end of the drive shaft if
necessary.
3. Clean drive shaft splines and hub assembly splines
thoroughly with contact cleaner and wire brush.
Remove all/any Loctite® residue.
IMPORTANT
Removal of all Loctite® material is a labor intensive
process and may take up to 10 minutes or more to
complete. It is critical that these surfaces are clean and
no residual Loctite® material or corrosion is present.
4. Apply Loctite® Primer 7649 to the hub assembly
splines. Allow 90 seconds for the primer to dry.
