8. Firmware Upgrade
Step 4. Start the update and wait until it is finished.
Click on the Start Update button to start the procedure. The status is shown in percent in the right side of the
device line and the status of the all procedures in the lower light green progress bar.

Step 5. Wait until the unit reboots with the new firmware.
Oncethefirmwareupgradeprocedureiscompleted,theunitrebootwiththenewfirmware.

Bydefault,deviceconfigurationsettingsarerestoredwhenfirmwareupgradeisfinished.Iffactoryresethas
been chosen in the parameters window, all device settings will be erased. In the case of factory reset you
cansavethesettingsofthedeviceintheLightwareDeviceControllersoftwareandrestoreitlater.Seethe
details in the ConfigurationCloning(BackupTab)section.
Thefollowingflowchartdemonstrateshowthisfunctionworksinthebackground.
Thedetailsabout theprocedure:whenfirmwareupgradestarts,thefirststepismakingabackup of the
settings of the device. The firmware package checks the backup data and if it is needed, a conversion
is applied to avoid incompatibility problems between the firmware versions. If you do not want to keep
configurationsettings,youcansettheFactory default option enabled.

Thedevicerebootsandstartsinbootloadmode(firmwareupgrademode).
2 Backup
Thecurrentconfigurationofthedeviceisbeingsavedintoaconfigurationbackupfileonyour
computer.YoucanfindadetailedlistaboutthesavedsettingsintheContent of Backup File
section.
3 Upgrade
TheCPUfirmwareandtheFPGAbinaryarechangedtotheneweronesinthepackage.
4 Factory reset
Beforetheupgradeallconfigurationsettingsarerestoredtothefactorydefaultvalues.
Conversion / Restore

Beforetherestoreprocedurethefirmwarepackagechecksthebackupdataandifitisneeded,
a conversion is applied to avoid incompatibility problems between the firmware versions.
Aftertheconversionallconfigurationsettingsarerestoredtothedevice.
When the factory default option is enabled in the Parameters window, the conversion / restore procedure
will not be performed!
