ADVICE
main purposes:
- For engine braking on a steep
and/or long downward slope
- For responsiveness and economy
on an uphill slope
result in engine damage. Do not
allow the engine to overrun when
downshifting.
Downshift early to avoid heavy
engine load.
In principle, you should use the
same gear(s) that you used to
drive up the hill. Drive at a speed
that does not cause the engine to
overrun (exceed its r/min limit) and
the tachometer pointer to enter the
red zone.
