Chapter 4 Description of Functions

4-1 Features of HL-D3 Series

4-1-1 Multi-zone Beam Control (MZBC)

The displacement sensor using the conventional line laser radiates the line
beam with uniform light intensity distribution. When the reflection rate or
detected light intensity of the target workpiece in the same field is a lmost
constant, the displacement detection accuracy was obtained by optimizing the
radiation level.
However, if a part with largely different reflection rate also exists in the same
field, it is difficult to control the optimum light intensity in all part s.
When the light intensity is decreased to optimize the part with high deflection
(white part), the detected light intensity is in short at the part with low reflec-
tion rate (black part) or part with high slope, and the displacement measurement
value is unstable. In contrast, when the light intensity is increased to optimize
4
the part with low reflection rate, the detected light intensity is saturated at the
part with high reflection rate and it is difficult to achieve stability.
The HL-D3 series divides the measuring range into segments. The sensitivity
is controlled for each segment zone (beam power control unit) for optimiz a-
tion. This is called multi-zone beam control (MZBC) function.
Since the displacement of each part is measured at the optimum light intensity
for each zone, there is not saturation or shortage of light intensity. The mea s-
urement value is stable.
