• When operating the product in the immediate vicinity of active, implantable systems (e.g. pace-
makers, defibrillators, etc.), ensure that the minimum distances stipulated by the manufacturer
of the implant are observed. Interference with active, implantable systems may occur due to
the electromagnetic radiation emitted by the product. Furthermore, make sure to observe any
operating conditions and safety instructions stipulated by the manufacturer of the implant.
3.1 Driving Vehicles
An upper limb amputee's ability to drive a vehicle is determined on a case-by-case basis. Factors
include the type of fitting (amputation level, unilateral or bilateral, residual limb conditions, design
of the prosthesis) and the amputee's abilities. Drivers must observe driving laws applicable in
their country. For insurance purposes, we strongly recommend having your driving ability exam-
ined and confirmed by an authorised agency. For maximum safety and convenience, Ottobock
recommends that the vehicle should be adapted in a specialised garage (such as by installing
a steering fork). It is imperative that the driver is able to operate the vehicle without any risk with
the System Electric Hand DMC plus turned off. Driving with the System Electric Hand DMC plus
turned ON may present a risk if the Hand inadvertently opens due to unintentional muscle con-
traction or other causes.
Caution:
Before a System Electric Hand DMC plus with a quick-disconnect wrist can be used,
the terminal device must be positioned in such a way that a slight turn of it cannot dis-
connect the Hand from the prosthesis.
These products may not be disposed of with household waste in some jurisdictions.
Disposal that is not in accordance with the regulations of your country may have a detri-
mental impact on health and the environment. Please observe the information provided
by the responsible authorities in your country regarding return and collection processes.
3.2 Service Information
Since all moving parts are subject to some wear and tear, Ottobock recommends yearly service
check-ups by your prosthetist. During the service visit, the entire Hand will be inspected and any
necessary adjustments or lubrication will be made. Furthermore, wearing parts will be exchanged,
if necessary.

5 Description and Function
The 8E38=6, 8E39=6 und 8E41=6 System Electric Hands are equipped with DMC plus propor-
tional control.
The DMC plus consists of two independent systems which precisely control the speed and grip
force of the Hand. Gripping speed and grip force are proportional to the strength of the muscle
EMG signal. The gripping process is much more natural, and it is easier to gently grip small or
fragile objects.
The DMC plus control is located within a black housing with a black dial. The Hand's coaxial
bushing or hand cable is marked with a brown ring.
The System Electric Hands equipped with DMC plus are controlled by the electrodes 13E125,
13E200 or 13E202.
