UltiMate 3000 Series:
VWD-3100 and VWD-3400RS Variable Wavelength Detectors
Intensity Test failed
In the test result, ### is replaced by "measurement channel" or "reference channel". Also
note the shape of the intensity spectrum, as absorbing substances in the flow cell may
cause local intensity drops. Measurement and reference intensity spectra must be
qualitatively identical.
Test Result
UV (VIS) low range spectral
intensity failed (###)
UV peak range spectral intensity
failed (###)
UV mid range spectral intensity
failed (###)
UV (VIS) high range spectral
intensity failed (###)
Second Order Filter Test failed
In the test result, ### is replaced by "measurement channel" or "reference channel".
Test Result
Dark current in ### too high
SO1 (SO2) filter malfunction:
insufficient attenuation
—or—
SO1 (SO2) filter malfunction:
bad transmission

Remedial Action
If the test results refers to the measurement channel
1. Verify that the flow cell is correctly installed and reinstall the flow
cell if necessary (→ page 126).
2. Check the optical path of the flow cell, making sure that it is
neither contaminated or obstructed nor damaged in any other way.
3. Install the dummy flow cell (→ page 126) and repeat the test. If
the test is successful, install a different flow cell.
4. Install a new lamp (→ page 119).
If the test results refers to the reference channel
Install a new lamp (→ page 119).
Remedial Action
1. Verify that the flow cell is correctly installed
(→ page 126) and that the connections are tightened
sufficiently. Reinstall the flow cell if necessary.
2. There may be too much stray light. Verify that the flow
cell is installed correctly and completely (→ page 126).
Darken the room if necessary.
3. Turn the detector off, wait for 30 seconds, and then turn
it on again by pressing the power switch on the rear of
the detector.
1. In Chromeleon, perform the Reset command.
2. Turn the detector off, wait for 30 seconds, and then turn
it on again by pressing the power switch on the rear of
