Operating Instructions
VWD-3100 and VWD-3400RS Variable Wavelength Detectors
Remedial Action
There may be too much stray light. Verify that the flow cell is installed
correctly and completely (→ page 126).
Check the flow cell for correct positioning (→ page 126).
Perform wavelength calibration to check the Dα line manually (→ Tip in
section 7.2, page 117).
The deuterium lamp is turned off. Turn on the deuterium lamp and retry.
You attempted to perform a light-dependent process, for example, manual
calibration, without a lamp being on. Turn on the deuterium or tungsten
lamp and retry.
Turn the detector off, wait for 30 seconds, and then turn it on again by
pressing the power switch on the rear of the detector.
Turn the detector off, wait for 30 seconds, and then turn it on again by
pressing the power switch on the rear of the detector.
If the detector displays several temperature sensor failure messages,
remove the flow cell and close the front panel door. If temperature
changes are displayed after a short time, reinstall the flow cell. If the
message appears again, the flow cell is defective and must be replaced. If
there is still no temperature data displayed (i.e., the temperature does not
change for some time), turn the detector off, wait for 30 seconds, and then
turn it on again by pressing the power switch on the rear of the detector.
The deuterium lamp may be defective. Turn the lamp off and on again.
Replace the lamp if necessary (→ page 121).
The deuterium lamp may be defective. Turn the lamp off and on again.
Replace the lamp if necessary (→ page 121).
The deuterium lamp does not ignite. The lamp may be defective. Turn the
lamp off and on again. Replace the lamp if necessary (→ page 121).
The intensity of the deuterium lamp is too low, compared to the reference
intensity. Reduce the intensity limit (→ UV low intensity limit, page 71).
Replace the deuterium lamp (→ page 121).
If the above actions are not successful, the optics may be defective. In this
case, contact Service.
Verify that the flow cell is installed correctly (→ page 126).
Verify that the flow cell is installed correctly (→ page 126).
Reduce the intensity limit (→ VIS low intensity limit, page 71).Replace
the tungsten lamp (→ page 123).
If the above actions are not successful, the optics may be defective. In this
case, contact Service.
The tungsten lamp is missing or may be defective. Verify that the lamp is
installed. Turn the lamp off and on again. Consider replacing the lamp(s)
(→ page 123).
The tungsten lamp may be defective (short-circuit). Turn the lamp off and
on again. Consider replacing the lamp(s) (→ page 123).
