Operating Instructions
VWD-3100 and VWD-3400RS Variable Wavelength Detectors
Remedial Action
There may be too much stray light. Verify that the flow cell is installed
correctly and completely (→ page 126). Check the air humidity of the
detector environment. The humidity might be too high. Let the detector
warm up for about 1 hour with the lamp(s) turned on and try again.
Perform a Dark Current Test (→ page 90).
There may be too much stray light. As the message appears only during
the Dark Current Test, see the remedial actions there (→ page 105).
The component ID chips cannot be accessed. Recoding/saving of wellness
data failed. Remove the flow cell. Turn the detector off, wait for
30 seconds, and then turn it on again by pressing the power switch on the
rear of the detector. If the message appears after installation of a flow cell,
the flow cell must be replaced (→ page 126). If the message appears
again, contact Service.
Turn the detector off, wait for 30 seconds, and then turn it on again by
pressing the power switch on the rear of the detector.
If the message appears after a flow cell was replaced, it can be ignored. If
the message appears more often, contact Service.
When auto-ranging is active, the settings for the integration time and for
the number of samples to be averaged are ignored. Consider disabling the
Auto-ranging Mode (→ Data menu, page 72).
Verify that the lamps are turned on. Check the flow cell for indications of
stray light, blockage, or incorrect positioning (→ page 126).
Change the data rate (→ page 85).
Verify that the lamps are turned on.
Turn the detector off, wait for 30 seconds, and then turn it on again by
pressing the power switch on the rear of the detector.
(where # = 1 to 5)
The deuterium lamp was turned off and on again before the lamp could
sufficiently cool down. However, the lamp cannot ignite before the
cooling-off period of 5 minutes has passed. Wait until the cooling-off
period has passed. The remaining time is shown in the message.
Turn the detector off, wait for 30 seconds, and then turn it on again by
pressing the power switch on the rear of the detector.
Note: When this message appears, the detector is immediately set to
standby mode. This is to avoid damage to the instrument.
Turn the detector off and allow it to cool down. Verify that the ventilation
slots are not obstructed. Avoid locations with temperatures of over 35 °C.
Then turn on the detector again.
If the detector displays several temperature sensor failure messages,
remove the flow cell and close the front panel door. If temperature
changes are displayed after a short time, reinstall the flow cell. If the
message appears again, the flow cell is defective and must be replaced. If
there is still no temperature data displayed (i.e., the temperature does not
change for some time), turn the detector off, wait for 30 seconds, and then
turn it on again by pressing the power switch on the rear of the detector.
