Shutting Down

The system should be shut down and restarted every seven days (or more frequently). In the

event of a power loss, allow the instrument to shut itself down.

Caution: If the Shutdown button is disabled (grayed out), preventing shutdown through

the software, contact Novartis Diagnostics Technical Service for assistance. DO NOT

attempt to shut down the system by pressing the power button on the CPU—doing so

could result in corruption of the database or software, or loss of data.

Note: Every time the system is shut down, the Lower Bay inventory must be re-validated

and the internal system modules must be allowed to reach the correct temperatures before

running samples. This process may take two hours.

Note: Shutdown may be delayed if the system is printing or processing an LIS

transmission. If the system is in an error state, it cannot be shut down using the Logoff/

Shutdown screen. Refer to Volume III, Error Handling for more information about shutting

down in error conditions.

To shut down:

1. Unload all sample racks and ARs from the system.

2. Ensure that the system is not deactivating MTUs.

The system must be in Standby mode in order to proceed.

Note: If the system is deactivating MTUs, wait approximately 30 minutes for the

Shutdown button to become enabled. This 30-minute waiting period will restart if

any of the following tasks are performed: Maintenance tasks (all), inventory tasks

(Lower Bay or ARs), priming, queueing an assay, or running an assay.

3. Click Shutdown on the Logoff/Shutdown screen.

The computer workstation automatically shuts down.

4. Turn off the analyzer using the power switch located on the front of the analyzer.

5. Restart the system.

a) Ensure that all system doors, covers, and drawers are closed.

b) Turn on the analyzer.

c) Turn on the computer workstation.

Note: Keep the system on and in Standby mode when not in use.
