Support the valve with "V" b locks, as s h o w n , and check
its runout with a dial gauge. The valve must be replaced if
the runout exceeds the limit .

Service Limit : 0 .05 mm (0.002 in)

Place t h e d i a l gauge a t right angles t o t h e valve head , a nd
measure the valve head rad ial runout .
If it measures m ore than limit, replace the valve .
Service Limit : 0 .03 mm (0.001 i n )

Measure the clearance i n two directions, " X " and "Y" per­
pendicular to each other, by rigging u p the d i a l gauge as
shown . If the clearance measured exceeds the l im it s peci­
fied below, then determine whether the valve or the g u ide
should be replaced to red uce the c learance to withi n the
standa rd ra n g e :

VALV E S T E M WEAR
If the valve stem is worn d own to the limit, when measured
with a m i crometer, and the clearance is fou nd to be in ex­
cess of the l imit indi cated previously, replace the valve, if
the stem is w ithin the limit, then replace the guide. After
repl alcing valve or guide, be sure to re-ch eck the clearance.
