2·7 PERIODIC MAINTENANCE A N D TUNE·UP PROCEDURES
E N G I N E O I L, OIL F I LTER AND OIL S T RAI N ER
Replace ( Change) oil and oil filter Initial 5 Hours and
Every 60 Hours
Clean oil strainer I nitial 5 Hours and Every 60 Hours
The oil should be changed while the engine is h o t . O i l filter
•
replacement at the above interval s should be done together
•
with engine oil change. •
Rmove the engine under cover.
•
Keep the motorcycle upright, supported by jack or block.
• Place a" n oil pan under the frame head pipe and the engine.
Rmove the engine oil drain plugs
•
cap @ to d rain engine oil .
•
Remove the oil filter cap @ by removing the three bolts .
Remove the old filter ®, and instal l the n e w o n e .
Replace the filter cap @ and tighten the bolts secu rely .
NO TE:
Before installing the oil filter and filter cap, check to be sure
•
that the spring ® and new O-rings ( 0 a n d @ ) a re instal led
•
correctly.
•
Remove the oil strainer ®,
Clean the oil strainer ® at the a bove i nterv a l s .
Tighten the oil strainer ® t o t h e s pecified torq u e .
•
Tightening torque: 2 5 - 30 N ' m
( 2 . 5 - 3 . 0 kg-m , 1 8 .0 - 2 1 . 5 Ib-ft)
Tighten the oil drain plugs
fresh oil thro u g h the oil f i l l e r . The engine will hold about
1
900 m l of oil .
•
• Use API classification of S E or SF oil witll S A E 1 OW /40
viscosity .
I n sta l l the filler cap @.
•
Start u p the engine and a l l ow it to run for 3 m i n utes at
idling speed .
Stop the engine with the engine sto p switch a n d wait
one minute, then check the oil level by removing the oil
level gauge @. If the level is below mark " F" , add oil
to that level .
NECESSARY AMOUNT OF ENGINE OIL
Oil change: 1 700 ml ( 1 . 8/ 1 . 5 US/Imp qt)
Filter change: 1 900 ml (2.0/1 . 7 US/Imp qt)
Overhaul engine: 2 1 00 ml ( 2 . 2/ 1 .8 US/Imp qt)
