VALVE S P R I N G
Check t h e springs f o r strength b y measuri n g their free
lengths and a l so the force required to compress them . If the
li mit ind icated below is exceeded by the free l en gth read­
ing or if the measured force d oes not fall withi n the ra nge
specified , replace both the in ner a n d outer springs as a set.

I nsert the valves , with their stems coated with ( S U Z U K I
M O LY PASTE) a l l a round and a l o n g the full stem length
without any break.
Similarly oil the lip of the stem sea l .

CAUTION :
When inserting each valve, take care not to damage the lip
of the stem seal.
Instal l the valve springs, making sure that the close-pitch
end CD of each spring goes in first to rest on the hea d .
The coil pitch of both inner a n d outer springs vary: the
pitch d ecreases from top to bottom , as shewn i n the il­
l u stratio n .
Fit a valve spring retainer, compress t h e springs with a
va lve spring compressor a n d fit the cotter halves to the
stem end .
