DESCRIPT I O N
The DR3 50S engine is equipped with a new type ignition syste m . This n ew system further reduces
timing fluctuations. It has a n "ignition timing control circu it" which accu rately controls ignition tim­
ing depending on the engine r/min.
O PERAT I O N
When the magneto rotor rotates, an electric current is generated in t h e power source coils, and this
current charges the capacitor "e" via diode " D , " . On the other hand, when the protrusion o n the
rotor passes the pick-up coi l , the currents are generated, they flow to the ignition timing control cir­
cuit, and they are converted into one ignition signal . This signal is sent to "SeR", the "SeR" be­
comes O N , the circuit "e"
capacitor " e " is discharged instantly, a high voltage is induced in the ignition second a ry coil " lg2",
and a spark.
This motorcycle is equipped with interlock switches for ignition circuit. The engine can only be started
if:
The transmission is in neutral or
The transmission is i n gear, the side stan d is fully u p .
IN SPECT I O N
MAGNETO COIL
Remove the seat.

Measure the resistance between the lead wires in the fol­
lowing table with a pocket tester.
