A I R CLEAN E R
Inspect each time the motorcycle i s rdden and clean
as necesSary
If the air cleaner is clogged with d ust, intake resistance will
be increased with a resultant d ecrease in power output and
a n i ncrease in fuel consu m ption .
Check and clean the element in the following manner:
Remove the left frame cover.
Remove the air cleaner case cover.
Remove the element.
Separate the polyu retha n foam element

Fill a washing pan of a proper size with nonfl a m m able
cleaning solvent. I mmerse the element in the cleaning sol­
vent and wash it clea n .
Sq ueeze t h e cleaning solvent o f t h e washed element by
pressing it between the palms of both hands.
I m merse the element in motor oil, and squeeze the oil out
of the element leaving it slig htly wet with o i l .
NO TE:
Do not twist or wring the element because it will tear or the
individual cells of the element will be damaged.
CAUTIO N :
Inspect the element carefully for rips, torn seams, etc. I f any
damage is noted, replace the element .
Reinstal l the clea ned or new cleaner element i n the
reverse order of removal .
D E -C O M PRESS I O N LEVER
Inspect Initial 5 Hours and Every 30 Hours
I ncorrect adjustment of the lever clearance may res u lt in
starting difficu lties or engine damage. Check the lever clear­
ence and if necessary, adjust as follows:
Adjust the valve clearance. (Refer to page 2-4. )
Loosen both l ock n uts @ on the cable adjuster
