RUN PERSONAL: Service & maintenance manual - rev. 3.1

3.3. HAND SENSOR AND CARDIO RECEIVER

This board manages the signal received from the telemetric transmitter used by the person
exercising. It receives the power supply signal from the Display Board and outputs a negative logic
pulse for every heart beat that is detected: the signal level is normally 5 Vdc, with a pulse at 0 Vdc
(having a width of approximately 30 msec) at each heart beat.
The receiver reception area is approximately with a 90 cm radius, but please have a look to
paragraph 6.15. "The telemetric heart rate signal is incorrect" to study it in detail. If there is
electromagnetic noise (produced by high voltage lines, radio transmitters, monitors, motors etc.)
within this area, the receiver becomes saturated and no longer receives any signal. Moreover if other
transmitters are working within this area (cross-talking), the signal received can be incorrect.
The board, manage both the telemetric transmitter and the Hand Sensors signals, in the same way.
Please note that the introduction of the Salutron 8500 receiver has been accompanied by the
removal of the function for setting the heart rate data acquisition priority, previously accessed
through the "Chest strap" or "Hand Sensor" items.
This because the priority is now determined by the HW position of a jumper (JP1) on the receiver itself:
JP1 CLOSED = Chest strap priority
JP1 OPEN = Hand Sensor priority
The standard configuration of the receiver is with chest strap priority.

3.4. JOYSTICK

These joysticks are used to adjust the speed and the elevation during the exercise. Each time they
are pressed, forward or backward, they send a signal to the CPU board to change the speed or the
elevation according to the joystick used.

3.5. EMERGENCY STOP

This is a safety device which allows the user to stop the machine in an emergency situation. It
consists of 2 magnetic sensors fixed to the machine display, which form a NC contact when the
emergency stop device is correctly positioned on the control panel during exercise.
If a user is in difficulty and detaches the emergency device from the control panel, the NC contact is
opened. On detecting opening of the contact, the CPU Board shows the message "Reposition the
emergency stop device and touch the screen" on the display and sends a signal to the Drive which
cuts off the power supply to the tread belt motor, halting the machine.
