Steering System — General Information
Possible Sources
• Air in the power steering sys-
tem.
• Power steering pump.
• Power steering pump.
• Steering gear valve.
• Accessory drive belt worn.
• Loose generator/power steering
pump mounting.
• Damaged pulley(s).
• Suspension components.

• Steering linkage.

• Steering column to steering gear
flexible coupling.
• Worn tie-rod ends.
• Worn steering column shaft.
• Loose steering gear retaining
bolts.
• Excessive steering gear back-
lash.
Action
• BLEED the power steering sys-
tem. For additional information,
refer to the Power Steering Sys-
tem Bleeding in this section.
• INSTALL a new power steering
pump.
REFER to Section 211- 02.
• INSTALL a new power steering
pump.
REFER to Section 211- 02.
• INSTALL a new steering gear.
REFER to Section 211-02.
• INSTALL a new accessory,
drive belt.
REFER to Section 303-05.
• TIGHTEN the mountings to
specification.

security and damage. INSTALL
a new flexible coupling as re-

wear. INSTALL new compo-
nents as necessary.

• INSTALL a new steering col-
umn. REFER to Section 211-04.
• CHECK and INSTALL new bolts
as necessary.
