DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING
Engine Emission Control
Inspection and Verification
1. Verify the customer concern by operating the
system.
2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of
mechanical or electrical damage.

Mechanical
• Sensors and controls
• Exhaust gas
recirculation clamps
• Exhaust gas
Recirculation tube for
cracks
• Vacuum pipes for
leaks
• Coolant pipes for
leaks
• Exhaust gas
recirculation gaskets

Electrical
• Loose or corroded
connection to the
exhaust gas
recirculation vacuum
regulator
• Loose or corroded
powertrain control
module electrical
connectors.
• Wiring harness
3. If an obvious cause for an observed or
reported concern is found, correct the cause
(if possible) before proceeding to the next
step.
4. If the concern is not visually evident, verify
the symptom and refer to WDS.
