Step 1520-6

1. Press the power button to turn off the power.
2. Unplug the system unit power cable from the wall outlet.
3. Record the slot numbers of all the PCI adapters. Label and record the location of
any cables attached to the adapters. Disconnect any cables attached to the
adapters and remove all the adapters.
4. Unplug the power cable from the diskette drive.
5. Unplug the power cable(s) from the 2-pack and 6-pack assemblies.
6. Unplug the disk drives from the 2-pack and 6-pack assemblies.
7. Unplug the power cables from all the SCSI devices in the media bays.
8. Connect the system unit power cable to the wall outlet.
9. Press the power button to turn on the power.
Do the fans in the front of the machine come on and the power LED on the
operator panel come on and stay on?
NO

Step 1520-7

One of the parts that was removed or unplugged is causing the problem. Install or
connect the parts in the following order:
1. Diskette drive power cable
2. 2-pack and 6-pack assembly power cable(s) (one at a time)
3. Disk drives (one at a time)
4. SCSI device power cable(s), lowest bay to highest bay

Reinstall the memory DIMMs on the processor card, one pair at a time, until
the problem recurs. Replace the memory DIMM pair (one DIMM at a time)
that was just installed.
v If the memory riser card was just installed, remove all of the memory DIMMs
from the memory riser card. If the system does not come up, replace the
memory riser card.
Reinstall the memory DIMMs on the memory riser card, one quad at a time,
until the problem recurs. Replace the memory DIMM quad (one DIMM at a
time) that was just installed.
Repeat this step until the defective FRU is identified or all the FRUs have been
exchanged.
If the symptom did not change and all FRUs have been exchanged, go to
"Step 1520-6."
Go to "MAP 410: Repair Checkout" in RS/6000 and Eserver pSeries
Diagnostic Information for Multiple Bus Systems.
Replace the system board.
