19 Configuring 802.1AB
Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) is an emerging standard to provide a solution for the configura-
tion issues caused by expanding networks. LLDP supports the network management software used for
complete network management. LLDP is implemented as per the IEEE 802.1AB standard. LLDP specifi-
cally defines a standard method for Ethernet network devices to exchange information with its neighbor-
ing devices and maintain a database of the information. The exchanged information, passed as LLDPDU,
is in TLV (Type, Length, Value) format.The information available to the network management software
must be as new as possible; hence, remote device information is periodically updated.
