Driveshaft Thrust Play
After obtaining optimum tooth contact, the driveshaft thrust
play should be measured.
1.
Affix
dial indicator to the driveshaft.

Dial lndicator
2. Slowly push the driveshaft downward and read the maxi­
mum play. Designate this measurement as the play (A).
Driveshaft thrust play:
Approx. 0.4 - 0.6 mm (0.016 - 0.023 in)
NOTE:
The driveshaft thrust play (A) should be known to adjust the
reverse gear shim.
Reverse Gear Backup Shim Adjustment
1. After adjusting forward gear tooth contact pattern, cor­
rectly assemble propeller shaft, in following sequence.
Forward thrust washer @, Reverse thrust washer A),
Reverse gear
®,
Reverse gear backup shim @, Propel­
ler shaft housing
@.

2. Assemble horizontal slider @ to connector pin.
