7.1 Installing sled columns as part of scale up
Caution: Some components are heavy.
Caution: Disconnect all power sources before servicing.

Required Tools

Note: Follow this procedure in its entirety on a single Storage Node-Storage
Enclosure Basic pair, starting with the lowest pair. Then, wait for ActiveScale
SM to display the Storage Node as ONLINE before repeating this procedure on
the next Storage Node-Storage Enclosure Basic pair.
1. Stop reads/writes to the Storage Node-Storage Enclosure Basic pair by gracefully powering down the
Storage Node.
a. Log into ActiveScale SM as admin.
b. Click Resources.
c. In the system graphic, select a Storage Node.
d. In the Action pull-down menu for that Storage Node, select Shutdown. The Machine Shutdown
dialog appears.
e. Type the password for admin.
f. Click Shut Down.
2. In your data center, identify the Storage Enclosure Basic that is paired with the Storage Node that you
shut down.
3. Remove the I/O module from the Storage Enclosure Basic.
a. Unplug the power cords from the Storage Enclosure Basic.
b. Unplug the HD miniSAS cables from the Storage Enclosure Basic by pulling the blue tab and
removing the cable from the port.
c. Unlock the I/O module from the Storage Enclosure Basic by pulling the latch handle out and away
from the I/O module.
