of how to check the brake torque.
Intermec EasyCoder 501 – Service Manual Ed. 7
The takeup unit is fi tted to the printer's center section using a
fl ange with two ball bearing. On the inner side, there is a gear
wheel, which only can rotate in one direction due to an internal
clutch. The wheel is held by a snap ring.
On the outer side, the bobbin and its attached gable are fi tted. The
rotation is braked by means of a friction felt pad and a pressure
spring. Thereby, it is possible to wind up the liner or media manu-
ally without running the motor. The friction brake also takes up
sudden jerks. A bobbin plate helps to hold possible rewind cores.
The assembly is held together by a #T20 Torx screw at the end of
the shaft.
If the rewind unit does not have enough strength to wind up the
media or to peel off the labels, it may depend on a too dry friction
felt. Dismantle the unit and soak the felt pad in fresh motor oil.
Remove excessive oil with a piece of tissue and reassemble the
unit.
The unwind torque should be 270 to 300 Nmm and the brake
torque 15 to 45 Nmm
