ASSEMBLY AND ADJUSTMENT

ASSEMBLY

1) Using special service tool, install a new needle-
bearing in position of flash with lower unit hous-
ing.
NOTE:
Install the bearing with manufacture's numbers fac-
ing upperside.
2) Align the drive-shaft sleeve locating-rib with the
recess in the gear case, and place the drive-
shaft sleeve into the gear case.
3) Place the pinion-gear shim-pack in position,
and install the taper-bearing outer race on the
shim-pack.
Using special service tool.
4) Place the forward-gear shim-pack in position,
and install the forward-gear outer race on the
shim-pack.
Using special service tool.
5) Referring to the illustration, assemble the for-
ward-gear in the taper-bearing.
