11.01 POWER MANAGEMENT MODES

The TEK-AT4LVG supports a very flexible and powerful power management scheme.
The System Controller provides progressively higher levels of power conservation
whenever the system is idle through the following special power saving modes: Stand-by
and Suspend. These modes are fully programmable through the AWARD Setup Program.
In general, each progressive level of power management is entered when inactivity is
detected by the System Controller which monitors activity from the Keyboard, Video,
Serial and Parallel I/O. The timeouts which are used to enter into Stand-by Mode and
Suspend Mode are set via the AWARD Power Management Setup screen.
While in full speed operation, your system will monitor all Stand-by events (most data
activity). When any monitored event occurs, such as any keyboard or serial port activity,
the Stand-by timer will be reset.
If no events occur within the specified period, the system will enter the Stand-by state
where the CPU is slowed down and the display becomes inactive. At this time, the system
will start monitoring the Suspend events. Again, if no events occur in the period specified
by the Suspend timer, the CPU will be stopped and the system will be powered down. As
always, when any monitored event occurs, the system will be fully powered-on, the CPU
returned to its default speed and the standby timer reset.
The various options in the POWER MANAGEMENT SETUP are described below.
POWER MANAGEMENT
There are three selections for Power Management: Disable (default, no power
management), Enable (power management with fixed default values), and User Define
(allows the user to set each option individually).
VIDEO ON/OFF CONTROL
When enabled, this option will make the Video Display become inactive after the period
of inactivity set in the System Stand-by Timer option.
