CHAPTER 5

Timing

The main purpose of the WR- Z16 is to distribute ultra- accurate syn-
chronization through a timing network.
The device can be configured as a Grand-Master
on
page 85) to retrieve time from an external source and then redistribute it
using NTP, IEE1588-2008/PTPv2 or White Rabbit protocols.
Through its virtual clock
system, it allows to combine these protocols in multiple ways and enable resi-
liency by configuring multiple timing sources. Additionally, an optional Hol-
dover
("Holdover" on
accuracy (1.5us < 24h after learning 3 days) even if all timing references are
down.
