Use Mode field of 04h or 06h to download the microcode image into
memory without saving (flashing). Buffer Offsets may be used in either of
these Modes.
After the downloaded microcode image is in memory, it may be flashed
and booted by issuing a
and a Parameter List Length of zero. The downloaded code will then run
on the drive and remain in memory until a subsequent hard microcode
download is done.
Mode 0Ah will cause data to be written to the echo buffer. Data shall be

sent aligned on 4-byte boundaries. The Buffer ID and Buffer Offset fields
are ignored in this mode. The capacity of the echo buffer may be
determined by the Buffer Capacity field in the Read Buffer echo buffer
descriptor.
If the Mode field is set to 00h, then the data sent must be preceded by a 4

byte Write Buffer Data Header. The following table shows the fields in
the Write Buffer Data Header.
