2. CALIBRATION OF HEATER TUBE TEMPERATURE CONTROLLER

2.1
The AUTOCAL procedure is used for cali-
brating the temperature controller and heater
tube thermocouple. Three standards are used,
utilizing the freezing points of water (H
0°C, Tin (Sn), 232°C, and Lead (Pb), 327°C.
Two calibrators are provided with the JFTOT.
One calibrator is a nickel-plated heater tube
that has a small well containing pure Tin. The
second is a stainless steel heater tube that has
a well containing pure Lead. The operator must
provide an ice bath for the 0°C calibration.
2.2
Turn POWER to ON ("I" = on, "O" = off).
Wait at least 20 minutes before proceeding
with the AUTOCAL to allow for temperature
stabilization and warm-up of JFTOT.

Press F6 AUTOCAL TC for the "PERFORM
CALIBRATION?" screen. The display will
indicate if the 20 minute warm-up period has

If the thermocouple is already posi-
tioned (stuck) in the calibrator's
solidified Tin or Lead, perform Step
2.42.1 before proceeding. Step 2.42.1
provides instructions to melt the Tin or
Lead so the thermocouple can be
removed from the calibrator.
