5. CHECKING AERATION FLOW, TIMER, AND COOLANT FLOW

5.1 Check the aeration flowmeter once every six
months.
5.1.1 While aerating fuel during a D3241 or
CUSTOM SETUP verify that the
aeration flow can be adjusted to
maintain the ball in the center of the
green range.
5.1.2 If proper adjustment can not be
obtained, check tubing, filter/dryer, and
aeration tube for obstructions. If
necessary, have a qualified technician
check the air pump for proper opera-
tion.
5.2 Check the timer once every six months.
5.2.1 The timer can be verified by any one
of three methods:
a. check 6 minutes aeration time
b. check 150 minute test time
c. check "timer left" during part of a
150 minute test
NOTE - Do not check the time of day to verify the
timer.
5.2.2 While aerating fuel during a D3241 or
CUSTOM SETUP, use a calibrated
timer (or stopwatch) to time how long
the air pump is on. This time should be
6 min ± 1% (4 sec).

5.2.3 While running a D3241 or CUSTOM
test, use a calibrated timer (or stop-
watch) to time how long the heater is
on. This time should be 150 min ± 1%
(90 sec).
5.2.4 While running a D3241 or CUSTOM
test, use a calibrated timer (or stop-
watch) to time a portion of the test
time. Time how long it takes for the
test timer display to count down a
selected time interval (e.g., 6 minutes).
The countdown time and measured
time should match within 1%.
NOTE - The longer the time period, the more
accurate the check (a test period of 6 minutes or
longer is recommended).
5.3 Check the coolant flowmeter once every six
months.
1. During a D3241 or CUSTOM test verify
that the cooling flow can be adjusted to
maintain the ball in the center of the green
range.
2. If proper adjustment cannot be obtained,
have a qualified technician check:
a. the coolant level
b. the water lines, bus bars, and radiator for
obstructions
c. water pump for proper operation
