VENTING FUEL SYSTEM

Turn the top FLOW CONTROL SELECTOR
VALVE to the SYSTEM VENT position and the
bottom valve (240 only) to the RUN position. The
Bypass valve(s) must be OPEN. If CLOSED, press
F6 (and F8, 240 only). Press F3 to start the Drive

Wait about one minute, then continue venting until the
air bubbles disappear and only the fuel globules are
present. About one minute is required to push out old
fuel from the lines inside the JFTOT before air from
the reservoirs and test section can be purged.
Maintain the water level above the end of the longer

START-UP

Press ENTER for the TEST RUNNING display.
Turn the FLOW CONTROL SELECTOR
VALVE(s) to the RUN position. The system fuel
pressure will increase. At about 300 psig, the bypass
valve(s) will cycle, close and open.
NOTE - the bypass valve can be heard and "-----"
is displayed while cycling.
As the pressure approaches 500 psig it may be
necessary to adjust the PRESSURE REGULATOR
to obtain 500 psig. At about 500 psig the JFTOT will
automatically:
a. turn the heater power to ON, about 80% power
initially,
b. record the time that the heater is turned on,
c. increase the temperature to the specified Setpoint,
d. begin decrementing (counting down) the Test
Timer (upper right corner).
e. turn on the coolant pump.
WARNING HOT SURFACES - the
heater test section and lines are
heated. Do not touch.
Remove the beaker from under the drip line and
replace with a clean beaker.
Adjust the coolant flow so the ball is in the center of
the green range.
