4.4 ASSEMBLY AND INSTALLATION OF
PRE-FILTER
For each test, use a new 0.45 µm membrane filter
element (white in color) of 25 mm diameter. As-
semble the backup screen, filter and O-ring in the
housing sections and secure with the three screws.
Attach the Pre-Filter to the top of the fuel reservoir
cover.
4.5 ASSEMBLY OF WATER RESERVOIR
Fill the water reservoir completely with distilled
water. Secure the cover with the six screws and
washers, taking care that the O-ring stays in the
groove. Put the water reservoir in place by mating
the quick connect fitting and pressing down firmly

until seated. A "snap" will be heard when seated.
Connect the INLET and VENT lines and finger
tighten snugly.
NOTE - A quick connect hose fitting is provided
for those who would rather fill an assembled
reservoir.
4.6 ASSEMBLY OF AIR TRAP
Fill glass jar with distilled water then attach to air trap
assembly.
Place a 1000mL beaker under the air trap assembly
drip line.
4.7 PREPARATION OF TEST FUEL
NOTE - Test method results are known to be
sensitive to trace contamination from sampling
containers. For recommended sampling contain-
ers refer to Practice D 4306.
If the power to the JFTOT is not on, toggle the
power switch to turn the JFTOT ON ("I" = means on
and "O" = off). The screen will display the MAIN
MENU. If the MAIN MENU is not displayed when
power is turned on, see Section 3.2 Main Operations.
(If power is already ON and the MAIN MENU is
not displayed, return to the MAIN MENU.) Press F1
or F2 to select a D3241 or CUSTOM test, respec-
tively. The SETUP screen for the selected test is
displayed. This screen allows the hardware to be
assembled and the test control parameters to be
adjusted. The CUSTOM SETUP screens allow the
operator to adjust the temperature setpoint, flowrate,
test time, and (240 only) the number of ∆Ps (dPs).
Press STEP to display the secondary CUSTOM
SETUP screen, then press EXIT to return to the
JFTOT II Operation Manual Rev. C
