primary CUSTOM SETUP screen. The ASTM-
D3241 SETUP screen only allows adjustment of the
temperature setpoint (flowrate, test time, and number
of ∆Ps are fixed).
NOTE – The second SETUP screen that allows
changing the flow rate and test time is available
only when performing CUSTOM tests.

Press F5 to confirm the Drive Pump is completely
down (at bottom).
Lubricate the sealing surface of the piston lipseal
with test fuel. Place the piston over the key pin in the
center of fuel reservoir stand. The stand provides a
means to properly install the piston into the fuel
reservoir. Press the reservoir down over the piston
until seated. The bottom inside surface of the fuel
reservoir has a chamfered edge to properly seat the

lipseal. Place the O-ring in the reservoir groove in the
top of the reservoir. Put the reservoir into a pan to
catch the runoff from later procedures.
NOTE - the top of the reservoir has fine pitch
threads and the bottom has coarse pitch threads.
Screw the filter/aeration funnel onto the top of the
fuel reservoir. This funnel is used for several pur-
poses:
a. holds a general-purpose, retentive, qualitative filter
paper.
b. prevents spillage during fuel aeration.
Measure about 600 ml of test fuel using a clean
graduated cylinder. Place the filter paper in the
funnel. Pour the test fuel into the filter paper and
allow the fuel to flow into the fuel reservoir. Fill to
the top edge of the reservoir (bottom edge of the
holes in the funnel), then remove the filter. Excess
fuel on the funnel body may be removed with absor-
bent cloth or paper. Dispose of properly.
Use a clean glass thermometer to ensure the fuel
temperature is between 15 and 32°C. If the fuel
temperature is outside of these limits, a suitable way
to change the temperature is to set the reservoir
containing the filtered fuel into a hot or cold water
bath as required to bring the fuel temperature within
the limits. Record the temperature of the test fuel.
Aerate the test fuel in the reservoir.
1. Make sure the Silica Gel in the dryer assembly is
blue. If not replace the Silica Gel, see Aeration
Dryer Replacement under Routine Maintenance in
the Appendix.
2. Insert the aeration tube until the diffuser is touch-
ing the bottom of the reservoir.
3. Press F1 to switch Aeration ON.
4. Adjust the AERATION FLOW meter to the
center of the green range.
5. The airflow will shut off automatically after six
minutes. The date and time the airflow shuts off is
recorded automatically .
NOTE – the time can be manually extended
beyond six minutes.
