7.25 Upgrade the firmware and project
Updating the firmware from the memory card to the latest version
Note
Backing up web server settings
In order that your specific web server settings remain after upgrading the firmware, before
upgrading, backup the configuration data and then load them again after the upgrade has
been completed.
Backup the data to this directory on the memory card:
\OEM\SINAMICS\HMI\
1. Open the project in STARTER (this step is not required if the project is already in
STARTER):
– Connect to the target system (online mode).
– Load the project from the target system into the PG/PC.
– Disconnect from the target device (offline mode).
2. Convert the project in STARTER to the current firmware version:
– In the project navigator, select menu "Drive unit" > "Target device" > "Update device
– Then select the required firmware version: e.g. version "SINAMICS S120 firmware
3. Replace the memory card:
– Disconnect the Control Unit from the power supply.
– Remove the memory card containing the old firmware version.
– Insert the memory card containing the new firmware version.
– Switch on the Control Unit again.
4. Wait until the Control Unit has completed the transfer of the new firmware.
This is signaled at the diagnostic RDY LED.
5. Using the backed up memory card data with the old firmware, overwrite the following
directory on the actual memory card:
\OEM\SINAMICS\HMI\
6. Transfer the project from STARTER to the new hardware:
– Connect the new hardware with the PG/PC.
– Connect to the target system (online mode).
– Download to the target device.
7. Then carry out a "Copy RAM to ROM...".
8. Carry out a POWER ON for the drive unit (Control Unit and all DRIVE-CLiQ components).
After the complete power up, the new firmware version is active in the DRIVE-CLiQ
components and subsequently displayed in the version overview.
