Procedure 1
FDD Head Cleaning Check
FDD head cleaning is one option available in the Diagnostic Program. A detailed operation is
given in Chapter 3, Tests and Diagnostics.
After loading Toshiba MS-DOS, run the Diagnostic Program and then clean the FDD heads
using the cleaning kit. If the FDD still does not function properly after cleaning, go to Proce-
dure 3.
If the test program cannot be executed on the T1960CS/T1960CT, go to Procedure 2.
Procedure 2
External 5.25-inch FDD Check
The floppy disk controller on the computer's system board controls the internal and external
FDD. To determine if either the system board or the internal FDD is defective, check the
following items.
Check 1
Connect the external 5.25-inch FDD to the PRT/FDD port and make sure it
functions properly. If it does, perform Procedure 4. If it doesn't, perform Check
2.
NOTE: To use the external 5.25-inch FDD, set the external FDD/PRT option
in the SETUP program to FDD A or FDD B.
Check 2
Replace the lower system board with a new one following the steps in Chapter 4,
Replacement Procedures. If the FDD is still not functioning properly, replace the
upper system board.
