Using AVI Files Created on Other Devices
You can copy AVI files created on other devices, such as your computer, onto an
external hard disk and use the files on this unit.
Notes
• Connectivity with all nonlinear editing systems is not guaranteed.
Commercially available software must be installed on the computer for
recognization of the hard disk.
• Information on the driver software and file format (.avi) can be found on the
following Anycast Station portal sites.

This unit supports AVI files created from DV captures and files output from
nonlinear editing system as DV AVI files.
Caution
• Audio sampling rates of 48 kHz, 44.1 kHz, or 32 kHz are supported.
• Only file names containing alphanumeric characters (within 20 characters) are
supported.
• The following files are not supported:
File type
Non-AVI files
Files with codecs other
than DV-SD
As an example, the following describes the process of copying an AVI file from
a computer and converting it for use on this unit.
Caution
• The external hard disk to be used must be formatted on the unit beforehand. For
details on formatting, see "Formatting an External Hard Disk" (page 172).
• Before using an external hard disk, be sure to read "External Hard Disk" (page
12).

Install a driver software on the computer.

With an IEEE1394 cable, connect the external hard disk to the computer.
The external hard disk is recognized as two drives with the volume labels
"system" and "data" that can be read and written to (this is referred to as
"mounting").
Description
The file extension is not .avi (.dv, .mov, .mpg, .mp3, .wav,
.m2t, etc.).
The codec identification code (FourCC) used in the AVI file
is not dvsd.
